Our History

Shenango Way Farm began as Crooked Acres Farm in 2004 with two horses and four riding students. I was a high school student trying to prove to my parents that my "pasture ponies" were worth keeping while I was away at school. I fell in love with teaching, and a few years later, I began giving lessons year-round.

Crooked Acres soon grew to four horses and was going strong. In 2008, our thoroughbred named Shenango Way suffered a devastating injury and nearly died. He was very sick for several months and lost alot of weight. At one point, we had been encouraged to consider putting him down. There was even a point that I agreed that this was the best thing I could do for him. Through a heart-wrenching year, we watched him suffer setback after setback and then slowly improve. Through this ordeal, he found himself a way into our hearts and became the namesake of the farm - Shenango Way Farm.

Shenango finally beat his illness, much to the amazement of the vets who had treated him, and was soon giving riding lessons again. He was just about everyone's favorite horse here and practically had a waiting list of students who wanted to ride him in their lesson! He was a sweet, gentle horse who would do anything for anybody.

Shenango passed away in the winter of 2011, but he will always be loved and remembered here at Shenango Way Farm.
